About Geqena

Geqena started in 2014 in Sheffield as a small favour between neighbours: standing in a queue at a council office for someone who could not take time off work. That single job turned into a request-a-week, then several a day, and over the following twelve years it grew into a proper local service covering four districts around the city.

We now handle 7 different types of queue and errand jobs, from council appointments to delivery collection points and event ticket lines. Since opening we have taken on 6,128 completed jobs for 3,744 clients, and 1,056 of them have come back to us more than once. Our team currently counts 24 people, most working part-time shifts around Sheffield's busiest queueing hours.

Our aim is simple: give people back the hours they would otherwise lose standing in line. We do not promise miracles, only that someone reliable will be there in your place, following your instructions and reporting back when it is done. Requests are usually answered within 8 hours, Monday to Saturday.

The values behind the work are straightforward: punctuality, clear communication, and honest pricing agreed before we start. We keep the paperwork simple and the process transparent, because a queue-standing job only works if the client can trust the person holding their place.

Frequently Asked Questions

Below are answers to common questions about our queue-standing service in Sheffield. If you cannot find what you are looking for, call us on +44 114 417 0889 or send an email to [email protected].

One of our team members arrives at the location you specify ahead of the expected opening or start time and holds your place in line until it is your turn, or until a time you agree with us in advance. You are notified when the queue is close to your position so you can arrive to complete the transaction, appointment or collection yourself. We do not act on your behalf for signatures or identity checks unless separately arranged.

We currently operate across 4 districts in and around Sheffield, including the city centre. When you submit a request, let us know the exact address or venue so we can confirm coverage and travel time. If a location falls outside our usual radius, we will tell you plainly rather than accept a job we cannot deliver on time.

We cover situations such as early-morning shop openings for limited-stock releases, council office visits, postal collection points, ticket counters, service centre appointments, and other lines where a fixed slot is not available and waiting time can run into hours. We handle 7 distinct service types in total, so if your situation is unusual, ask us directly and we will confirm whether it fits.

We typically reply to new requests within 8 hours, so booking a day ahead is usually enough for straightforward jobs. For early-morning openings with limited stock or high demand, we recommend contacting us at least 48 hours in advance so we can allocate a team member and confirm the arrival time with you before the queue forms.

Pricing depends on the expected waiting time, the location and the time of day. A short queue of under an hour near the city centre costs less than an overnight or early-morning wait further out. We provide a fixed quote in pounds sterling before you confirm the booking, so there are no surprise charges once the job is underway.

Yes, overnight queueing is available for releases or events where doors open early in the morning. This is arranged as a separate rate from daytime waiting because it requires a longer shift from our team member. Let us know the exact opening time and address as early as possible so we can confirm availability, since overnight slots are limited by our team size of 24 people.

Our team member stays in phone contact throughout the wait and sends you an update once the queue reaches an agreed point, usually when 10 to 15 people remain ahead or a set time is reached. This gives you enough notice to travel to the location and take over your place without losing your position.

In most cases, yes. Many venues require the person completing the transaction, signing a document, or collecting an item to be present in person once it is their turn. Our role is to hold the place and reduce your waiting time, not to replace you at the counter. We will explain the handover process for your specific situation before the job starts.

Queue speed can vary, and we build in some flexibility when quoting a job. If the wait runs significantly longer than estimated, we will contact you to confirm whether to continue and adjust the price accordingly before extra time is added. If it moves faster, we will call you earlier so you are not caught out.

Yes, this is one of the more common reasons people use this service, particularly for council appointments or postal collections on behalf of a relative who finds long waits difficult. Provide the relevant details when booking, including any documents the queue holder may need to bring, and we will coordinate the handover with you or directly with the person collecting.

We work with both. Local businesses have used this service for tasks such as securing early access to trade counters or waiting at supplier collection points during busy periods. Since 2014 we have completed 6128 jobs across both personal and business requests, so we are familiar with the practicalities of each type of queue.

Cancellations made with reasonable notice, generally more than 12 hours before the scheduled start, do not incur a charge. Late cancellations, particularly for overnight or early-morning bookings where a team member has already been allocated, may carry a partial fee since the slot cannot usually be reassigned at short notice. Full terms are confirmed at the time of booking.

Payment is arranged once we confirm the quote, usually by bank transfer or card payment ahead of the job. For repeat clients, invoicing after the job can sometimes be arranged. We do not require full payment before confirming the exact details of the queue and location.

Our team member can hold sealed documents you provide for handover once you arrive, but we do not open, sign or submit paperwork on your behalf unless this has been explicitly discussed and agreed as part of the booking. This keeps the process straightforward and avoids issues with venues that require the applicant's own signature or identification.

Sheffield weather can turn quickly, and our team members are equipped for standing outdoors for extended periods in most conditions. In cases of severe weather warnings that make outdoor waiting unsafe, we will contact you to discuss options, which may include rescheduling or adjusting the arrangement. Safety of our team takes priority over holding a place.

Where availability allows, we try to assign the same person to repeat bookings so they are already familiar with the location and your preferences. Around 1056 of our clients have returned for a second job, and many mention this continuity as one of the reasons they book again. We cannot guarantee the same person every time, but we do note your preference on file.

There is no strict minimum, though jobs under 30 minutes may still carry a base charge to cover travel and scheduling. On the upper end, we have covered waits extending beyond 8 hours for major releases or high-demand appointments. Longer jobs are usually split into shifts between two team members to keep service quality consistent throughout.

You will receive a direct phone number for the team member assigned to your job once the booking is confirmed. This means you can reach them straight away if plans change, rather than going through general enquiries. Our office line, +44 114 417 0889, remains available during business hours for any wider questions or new bookings.

Our office at 91 Chesterfield Road, Sheffield, S26 8UL is reachable Monday to Friday from 10:00 to 16:30 and Saturday from 09:30 to 14:00. We are closed on Sundays. Actual queue-standing jobs can take place outside these hours, including early mornings and overnight, since those are scheduled separately from general office contact.

What Clients Say About Queue Cover

Comments below come from people in Sheffield who booked someone to hold a place in a queue for them, across passport offices, council appointments, sale launches and clinic check-ins.

★★★★★

Booked cover for a passport renewal queue at short notice. The person arrived 40 minutes before opening and texted me when it was nearly my turn, so I only had to leave work for fifteen minutes. Straightforward and exactly as described.

★★★★★

Used them twice now for early morning queues outside a clinic. Both times the price was clear from the start, no add-ons once the job was done. For what it saves me in annual leave, it's worth it.

★★★☆☆

Did what was promised, but the person waiting called me only once during a three hour wait, so I wasn't always sure how far along the queue had moved. The end result was fine, just wanted a bit more updates in between.

★★★★★

Needed someone at 6am outside a shop for a product launch. Sorted within the day I called, replacement showed up on time, held the spot for just over two hours. No complaints.
