Frequently Asked Questions

Below is a detailed list of questions our clients in Sheffield usually ask before booking someone to queue on their behalf. If your question is not covered here, you can reach us on the contact page or check the about page for background on how Geqena works.

Geqena has operated in Sheffield since 2014. Our team of 24 people has completed 6128 queue-standing jobs for 3744 clients across 4 areas of the city. Typical reply time to a new request is 8 hours.

How a Booking Is Organised, Step by Step

1

You send the details

Tell us the location, the expected queue, and the time window through the contact form, by phone, or by email. Include any documents or reference numbers the queue might require.

2

We confirm availability

Within roughly 8 hours we reply with a confirmed time, an assigned team member, and the agreed fee. If the slot cannot be covered, we say so straight away rather than leaving you waiting.

3

Our representative arrives early

The assigned person arrives before the queue is expected to form, holding any paperwork you provided, and takes a position in line on your behalf.

4

You get a status update

As the queue moves, we send a message with an estimate of when your presence will be needed, so you are not standing around waiting for a call that comes too late.

5

Handover at the front

When the queue nears its front, we contact you to arrive and take your place, or, where allowed, we complete the transaction directly using the documents you supplied.

General Questions

We send a person to hold your place in a queue so you do not have to stand there yourself. This applies to queues outside shops, service counters, ticket offices, and similar situations in Sheffield where waiting in line is required. We do not represent you in legal proceedings, and we do not complete transactions that require your personal signature unless you have granted written authorisation for a specific, limited task.

Geqena was founded in 2014, which means the service has been running in Sheffield for twelve years as of 2026. Over that time the team has grown to 24 people and the range of services offered has expanded to seven, covering different types of queue-related bookings across four areas of the city.

We currently serve four areas across Sheffield, with our base at 91 Chesterfield Road, S26 8UL. If your location falls outside our usual coverage, mention the address when you get in touch and we will confirm whether we can take the booking, sometimes with a small adjustment to the fee for travel time.

Yes. Geqena operates from a fixed address at 91 Chesterfield Road, Sheffield, S26 8UL, with published contact details: phone +44 114 417 0889 and email [email protected]. You can reach us during our stated business hours, and every booking is confirmed in writing before work begins.

Since 2014, we have worked with 3744 clients and completed 6128 individual queue-standing jobs, which averages out to around 312 new clients a year. Of those clients, 1056 have booked us a second time for a different queue or occasion.
Booking and Timing

For most queues, giving us 24 to 48 hours notice allows time to schedule a team member and confirm details with you. Same-day requests are sometimes possible depending on how full our schedule is that day, but they are not guaranteed. Our typical reply time to any request is around 8 hours, so book as early as you can if the date is fixed.

Our usual reply time is about 8 hours during business days. If you submit a request on Saturday afternoon or on a Sunday, when our office is closed, expect a response the following business morning. For urgent same-day queues, calling +44 114 417 0889 directly tends to get a faster answer than the online form.

We are open Monday to Friday from 10:00 to 16:30, and Saturday from 09:30 to 14:00. We are closed on Sundays. Bookings for early-morning queues, such as those starting before our office opens, can still be arranged in advance during our regular hours.

Yes. Early starts are common for release-day queues and morning appointments. You simply need to arrange the booking during our published office hours beforehand, since we cannot take new phone calls before 10:00 on weekdays, but the queue-standing itself can begin at whatever time you need.

Yes, changes and cancellations are possible. We ask that you let us know as early as possible, ideally at least a few hours before the scheduled queue time, so we can reassign the team member to another job if needed. Late cancellations, particularly for early-morning slots, may be handled differently since staff planning has already been done.

Sometimes. It depends on whether one of our 24 team members is free that day and in the right area of Sheffield. Phoning us directly rather than using the form increases the chance of a fast answer for a same-day queue.
During the Queue

In most cases, yes, at least for the final part. Many queues require the actual customer to be present for identity checks, signatures, or payment. Our representative holds the place and messages you as the line approaches the front, so you can arrive just in time rather than waiting for hours.

Our staff member sends periodic updates by text or messaging app as the queue moves, and gives a clearer estimate once you are within roughly 30 to 45 minutes of the front. This way you can continue your day nearby without standing in line the whole time.

Our representative will wait a reasonable amount of time and try to reach you, but if a queue moves faster than expected and you cannot get there, the place may be lost, since staff at the counter or shop generally will not hold a spot indefinitely. We recommend staying reachable by phone during the estimated handover window.

Only where the venue's own rules allow a third party to act, and only if you have provided the required documents and any written authorisation in advance. Many services still require the account holder in person, in which case our role is limited to holding the queue position until you arrive.

We give an initial time estimate based on typical queue behaviour for that type of location, but queues can move slower on busy days. If a job runs significantly longer than agreed, we will contact you to discuss an adjusted fee before continuing, rather than adding charges without notice.

Our team comes prepared for typical Sheffield weather, including rain and cold mornings. Outdoor queue jobs proceed as planned unless conditions become unsafe, such as during a severe weather warning, in which case we will contact you to reschedule.
Types of Queues We Cover

Yes, this is one of our regular services. Whether it is a limited release at a retail store or the start of a seasonal sale, we can arrive early, hold a position outside the shop, and hand the spot to you before doors open.

Yes, we regularly hold places outside council buildings and public service offices around Sheffield. Please note that identity verification is usually required in person for these services, so our role is to save you the waiting time until your appointment slot is close.

Yes. Repair counters, returns desks, and similar service points sometimes have long waits, particularly on weekends. We can hold your place and message you when it is close to your turn.

Yes, entry queues for local events, exhibitions, or venue openings are among the seven types of services we offer. We arrive at the time you specify and hold the position until you join us close to the entry point.

We do not take on queues connected to activities that are unlawful or that require us to misrepresent who we are. We also avoid situations where a venue explicitly prohibits queue substitutes, since this could get your place removed entirely. If you are unsure whether a specific queue qualifies, ask us before booking.
Pricing and Payment

Pricing depends mainly on the expected waiting time and the location within Sheffield. Once you describe the queue, we give a fixed quote in pounds sterling before confirming the booking, so you know the cost upfront rather than being billed by unpredictable hourly increments.

If the queue runs noticeably longer than our estimate, we contact you first to explain the situation and agree on any additional charge before continuing. We do not add surprise fees after the job is finished.

Payment details, including accepted methods, are confirmed when your booking is finalised. We will walk you through the options over the phone or by email once your quote is agreed.

Around 1056 of our clients have booked a second time, and we do consider adjusted rates for repeat or regular bookings, such as weekly council office visits. Mention your previous booking when you contact us and we can discuss options.
Trust and Practical Details

One of our 24 team members, assigned according to location and availability on the day. You will receive the representative's first name and, for longer jobs, a photo confirmation before the queue begins, so you know who to look for at handover.

We generally need the exact location, the expected date and time the queue starts, a contact number for updates, and any reference numbers or documents relevant to the queue. The more detail you give us at booking, the more accurate our time estimate and quote will be. You can find the request form on our contact page.
