We are based in Sheffield and we hold places in queues so our clients do not have to. This page explains how the company started, how it works today, and who runs it.
Geqena was set up in 2014 by a small group of Sheffield residents who noticed a simple gap: people who worked long shifts had no way to sort out appointments, renewals or collections that required waiting in a physical line during opening hours. The first jobs were informal, mostly favours for neighbours near Chesterfield Road. Word spread, and within a couple of years the informal arrangement turned into a registered service with a fixed address and a proper booking process.
Over the twelve years since, the team has grown from two people to 24, and the range of tasks has widened from a handful of errands to seven distinct services covering different types of waiting and collection work across Sheffield.
The purpose of the business has not changed since 2014: give people back the hours they would otherwise spend standing in a line. We do not promise to skip queues or use shortcuts — we simply take the waiting on ourselves, following the same rules and order as anyone else would. Our long-term aim is to keep this service available across all four districts we currently cover, without expanding so fast that response times slip.
We confirm each booking in writing and arrive at the agreed time. If a queue location or opening time changes, we tell the client before the appointment, not after.
We describe what a task involves, how long it is likely to take, and what documents are needed, without vague promises about outcomes we cannot control.
Twelve years of working across Sheffield means we know which offices get busy at certain times of day and how to plan around that.
